A seated concert mixing ancient and contemporary approaches to musical patterns in deep time, bringing together diverse influences from South India, Iran and Ancient Greece..

Kourosh Kanani and Matt Davies – Kourosh’s guitar and Matt’s electronics-infused drum kit create soundscapes grounded in deep understanding of South Indian rhythm, woven into the rich musical traditions of Iran and Azerbijian (via Leeds and London).

Prathap Ramachandra – Mridangist and contemporary musician Prathap Ramachandra will explain how Carnatic music uses geometry to represent rhythm. Prathap will show us how to build a geometric representation of a rhythmic structure and show us the canonical forms discussed in the shāstras. Finally, Prathap and his team Pratam Prathap and Pujantan Shivagurunathar will perform these geometric representations in real time.

Heavy Lifting – The solo project of Sheffield-based live coder/electronic Lucy Cheesman, known for drawing from diverse influences in her algorithmic music, including the patterns of Ancient Greek metrical structures.
